How Do You Do Truth?

You live it! “It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it.” (3 Jn. 3, NIV) Thus, truth is something we should do. In fact, it’s something we must do, if we want to show up in heaven when the time comes!

“If someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back,
you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will
save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.” (Js. 5:19–20, NLT)

One cannot “wander” off a path unless they were first on it. Likewise, one cannot “stray” from the truth unless they had first known it and owned it.

Even as “there is one body, one Spirit, one hope for the future, one Lord, one faith, and one baptism,” (Eph. 4:4-5), there is also only one absolute truth – the same solid truth for everyone everywhere forever…and we can readily know it. Jesus told the Jews (more especially those who believed): “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

The phrase “to thine own self be true” comes from the William Shakespeare play, Hamlet. The character, Polonius, uses it while giving advice to his son, admonishing him to hold fast to his own values, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and integrity so that he would naturally be honest and forthright with all others. It is simply being honest with your own heart and mind, as well as with God and His divine Word. Then your rewards will be peace, freedom, and confidence – you’ll never have to feel guilty when you always tell and ‘do’ the truth.

“Truth will out.” (Look it up.)
