Unique Tips for Dealing with Stress/Anxiety

There are many people in the world dealing with anxiety and there are a variety of ways that it can be dealt with.  Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, uneasiness that can be crippling in your behavior.  This feeling can cause fear and stress in the body that can manifest itself in physical ailments. These thoughts can keep you away from living life to the fullest.

Most people have theories on ways to reduce stress including sleeping better, eating better, and exercising more.  This is definitely a wonderful way to start your journey to health.  However, there are many other tips that are not as broad in their scope.

Breathe Deeply – This may sound basic, but when you are in the midst of high anxiety, you may forget to breathe and this can calm your body and allow it to relax.  If you lie on your back and put one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest, you can feel the air slowly come in and you can slowly release the air as well.  This creates a calming effect on your body.

Schedule Worry Time – Set aside 30 minutes of time in the morning or at night to think about all that worries you.  Identify all the problems you are experiencing and think them through. Do not dwell on the “what-ifs” that occur in life.  Focus on what is actually causing you to be anxious.

Be a Boss – Whenever you have a negative thought or worry, tell yourself to turn it into a positive.  Face your fears head-on and allow yourself to combat those emotions for the better.

Tame Tense Muscles – When you have stress and anxiety, your muscles become very tense.  Massage can be very helpful for tense muscles, but if you are feeling anxiety several times a week or even day, this is not a possibility.  Choose a muscle group and flex that muscle for a few seconds and then let that muscle go.  Focus on one section of your muscles at a time and go through your entire body in a progressive manner.

Do Good – Spend time doing good for others.  Volunteer and be a part of something bigger than yourself to show that you care.  It will give yourself positive energy that is good for your soul.  The bonus is that you are able to help others at the same time.

Now that you have found some techniques to keep your anxiety and stress in check, along with a healthy lifestyle, it is time to look for ways to lessen anxiety.  Keeping a diary of actions that have caused anxiety is a great way to understand your personal triggers.  There may even be people in your life that are the cause for anxiety in your life.  You can find out what is triggering your stress and anxiety and find ways to minimize anxiety in your life.  Once you have some answers, you will have some control over your life.
